Vincent Kompany admits Maxwell Cornet will “not be involved” in Burnley’s next game of the tournament with West Ham United close to a deal to bring the winger back to the Premier League, speaking to Lanx Live.

The Burnley boss had some mixed news for Clarett supporters at his press conference on Thursday.

While Kompany confirmed Manuel Benson’s impending arrival from Royal Antwerp, he also confirmed that Cornette would not be part of his squad for Luton Town’s trip to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.

The former Lyon striker will be revealed as a West Ham player in the “next days,” says Lanx Live, the former Lyon striker.

The Europa League semi-finalists have agreed to a deal that will see the Newcastle United and Leeds target join a £17.5m deal. At least, if it’s any consolation, Burnley have made good money for a player who joined for £13m just 12 months ago.

Maxwell Cornet is about to leave Burnley for West Ham United

“My focus was only on the players and the incoming players who are available for the weekend,” Kompany explains. For me, that is the priority.

“At the moment, Max will not be participating on Saturday. As the situation continues, we will manage it.”

Cornet, who scored a largely impressive nine goals during Burnley’s fearsome season, will bring speed, skill and versatility to West Ham’s small side. According to The Standard, David Moyes believes the Ivory Coast international could play as a full-back in a 3-4-2-1 formation or as a forward in attack.

Cornet did his best at Burnley up front. But he thrived as an attack-minded left-back during his last few months as a Lyon player.

In the meantime, it appears Manuel Benson is ready to replace Cornette at Turf Moor. Claret agreed a £4m deal with Antwerp this week, with coach Marc van Bommel refusing to stand in the Belgian’s way.

“It’s the end of the pitch work. That kind of thing is sometimes a little more difficult to train for,” Kompany adds. “Someone like Benson is a player that I think still has a lot of progress to make.

“I am sure everything will be confirmed very soon. But when he is here, I think he is a player who will give us that little bit of instinct in the final third.”
