According to Express and Star, Ruben Neves now wants a penalty clause in his contract with Wolves, following Arsenal’s interest.
What’s the story?
Well, it was said that Mikel Arteta wanted the £58,000-a-week playmaker at the Emirates Stadium.
Both Express and Star believe Neves was heading to the exit door at Molineux this summer, as a deal with Barcelona has been agreed in principle.
However, problems over Frenkie de Jong’s expected departure have slowed things down, and the Portugal international is now said to be open to a new contract with Wolverhampton – on one condition.
The 25-year-old is keen for Wolves to include a release clause in any new deal, assuring him of a clean departure as he won’t need to force anything with a transfer request.
It is also said that Manchester United have made an offer for Neves.
The interest in Wolverhampton’s No. 8 shirt comes after he scored four goals in 36 games last season, while also providing assists.
Arsenal have a good chance to sign Ruben Neves
With the Portuguese playmaker clearly considering his next move, Arsenal have a high chance of signing him – either now or next summer.
Neves is clearly considering leaving Wolves relatively soon, given the fact that he wants a penalty clause, so if the gunner Wolves makes a respectable offer, things could start to happen.
The £15.8m player has a contract at Molino until June 2024, so if Arsenal enjoy a strong season and return to the Champions League, next summer could be the perfect time to sign Neves if he doesn’t seal a new deal.
At this point, he’ll only have 12 months on his contract, and wolves would surely be tempted to sell.
Keep an eye on this situation, because we believe there is more to engage Neves before the transfer deadline.
In other news, a £52.5m star is set to join Chelsea, but Tottenham’s misfit fail to replace him.
