International Friendship Day quotes to share with your besties

International Friendship Day is here, and what better way to express your love and pay tribute to your best friend than with a cute quote or message?

Today, Saturday 30 July, is International Friendship Day – a day for people to openly learn about the contribution their friends make to their lives and the positive impact they have made.

Explanation of World Friendship Day

According to the United Nations, the United Nations General Assembly first declared a World Friendship Day in 2011 with the idea that “friendship among peoples, nations, cultures and individuals can inspire peace efforts and build bridges between societies.”

However, the basic principle of the day dates back to the early 1900s and in 1958 when Joyce Hall, the founder of Hallmark Cards, announced the idea in Paraguay after it had already been celebrated as “National Friendship Day” in the United States.

The date of the original celebration was August 2, although it has since been moved to August 7 due to asynchrony in the United States and is celebrated internationally on July 30 – with the exception of countries such as Ecuador, Estonia, Finland, Mexico, Venezuela, the Dominican Republic, Valentine’s Day and Valentine’s Day Friendship on February 14th.

In South Africa, the day is celebrated on April 16, while Ukrainians celebrate it on June 9.
