Premier League quartet Leeds United, West Ham, Newcastle and Arsenal wanted Charles de Kitleary before the Belgium international sealed a £30m transfer to AC Milan, his representatives told Heat News News.
One of the longest-running TV series has finally come to an end. We don’t mean the neighbors.
Serie A champions AC Milan confirmed the £30m signing of Club Brugge Talisman Charles de Kitleri on Tuesday, taking on rival Leeds side who were poised to make the so-called ‘new Kevin De Bruyne’ the 102nd most expensive acquisition. – Date of the year.
Leeds United miss Charles de Kettlerie
“(Leeds’ interest) was very tangible. They totally wanted him. They just wanted him,” explains De Kettleri’s representatives, noting the role that director Paolo Maldini and coach Stefano Pioli played in luring the elegant forward to Italy.
‘To understand if Leeds was the right move, he wanted to make a comparison. We called Milan (and said); if you really want him, insist now. And push hard’.
Then Maldini called him. Charles had a good conversation with Pioli too and was totally convinced. Leeds offered 40 million (€) and Milan had a limit. But Brugge was not to sell it for 20 million, so Milan had to relaunch the offer. ”
Leeds weren’t the only Premier League club to inquire about De Kitleary’s availability. Not that West Ham, Newcastle or Arsenal really threatened to go for a player who launched Club Brugge to glory in the Jubilee League while scoring 18 goals and making 10 assists in all competitions during 2021/22.
“In Charles, there were West Ham, Newcastle and Arsenal,” the agent adds. “But, with them, the conversation never lasted. Barcelona had been following him for some time too, but I thought that was not the right move.
Financially, Leeds would be the better choice. But Charles wanted to wait a little longer. When Charles felt Milan wanted him 100 per cent, things changed.”
