Alan Shearer has asked Mohamed Salah to become better at Liverpool, calling it a “scary prospect”.
Earlier this summer, Salah drew a line for his long-term future by signing a new contract at Anfield.
In doing so, the 30-year-old has stemmed a seemingly endless wave of speculation about his possible departure from Liverpool, with his latest deal only to run until next summer.
And Shearer believes clarity will be a burden on his mind, enabling him to perform at a higher level now this season.
He told BBC Sport: “A big reason for that is Mohamed Salah signing a new contract, which is very huge for them and would be a huge burden on his mind as well.
“We may see Salah play better now, which is a frightening prospect for the Premier League defences.”
Mohamed Salah contract with Liverpool
There is no doubt that Mohamed Salah’s contract with Liverpool will allow him to play with a little freedom.
But can he really get better?
This is certainly possible, but it doesn’t seem very likely.
Last season, the ex-Chelsea striker scored 31 goals in all competitions, and while that is perfectly equal to Salah’s trajectory, this year it will be his first without Sadio Mane as a teammate.
The Senegal international joined Bayern Munich and it remains to be seen if Liverpool’s hat-trick is equally strong with Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz supporting Salah in attack.
Jurgen Klopp’s side kicked off their Premier League title campaign with a trip to Fulham on Saturday.
