According to Express and Star, Wolves believe they can turn Nottingham Forest and Everton target Morgan Gibbs-White into a £50m player.
What’s the story?
Well, after the 22-year-old has shone during a season-long loan spell at Sheffield United, there is plenty of interest in the Premier League with his services.
Crystal Palace is said to be very keen on signing Gibbs White, while Everton have already seen a £20m bid rejected by Wolves.
Recently, Nottingham Forest approached Wolves with a very good offer totaling £35m, but Old Gold decided to turn that down as well.
Now, some insight has emerged into this decision.
The Express and Star claims that Wolves believe Gibbs White could soon become a £50m superstar with more development under his belt, which is why they are rejecting all developments in his favour.
It is also said that Wolverhampton are hoping to sign the England Under-21 national team player to a new contract, but according to Athletic, he has no intention of doing so at the moment.
The interest in Gibbs White comes after he scored 12 goals and provided 9 assists in 39 games last season.
You must wait for Nottingham Forest and Everton
In our opinion, this is a perilous time for Steve Cooper and Frank Lampard to continue their pursuit of Gibbs White.
The attacking midfielder’s stock is high at the moment following the aforementioned loan transfer, but a lot could change in a year’s time.
In the summer of 2023 Gibbs White will have just 12 months left on his contract at Molyneux, and if he also has had a disappointing season, he won’t be valued anywhere near £35m, let alone the £50m Wolves hope.
It is therefore worth waiting to see how the talented midfielder has performed in the Premier League this season, as he hasn’t really established himself despite his brilliance in the tournament.
