Peter Crouch has revealed that Darwin Nunez may be ‘furious’ with manager Jurgen Klopp after he was put on the bench for Liverpool’s first Premier League clash of the season.

Nunez scored in the Reds’ 2-2 draw with Fulham this afternoon as Klopp’s side started their season in disappointing fashion.

However, the Uruguay international, who scored a £85m signing this summer, only came early in the second half.

The Liverpool boss started with Roberto Firmino through the middle in place of the former Benfica fighter.

And Crouch, speaking to BT Sport, believes Nunez – who has had a strong pre-season campaign – may be angry with the Reds boss.

He said before the match: “The thing is you chomp. If you have a good preparation for the new season, you score goals,” he told BT Sport ahead of Liverpool’s game with Fulham. “He got four in pre-season, one in the Community Shield, if I was a striker I’d be pissed off.”

Darwin Nunez goal

With a clever shot from Mohamed Salah’s cross, Nunez equalized after Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the hosts’ 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.

An equalizer may count as an own goal, but the Liverpool striker will certainly claim it.

Then Salah equalized with the Reds again after Mitrovic fired Marco Silva’s lead from the penalty spot, after a foul by Virgil van Dijk.

There is no doubt that Nunez changed the course of the match for Liverpool, who were uncharacteristic when Firmino was up front, and the Uruguay international may start his next game as a result.
