An anime adaptation of the manga series Dark Gathering has just been announced, with the first teaser confirming a 2023 release.
There has certainly been no shortage of anime adaptations announced over the past few months, with a particular focus on the horror genre where producers see the benefit of adult-focused content.
However, one of the most anticipated horror anime now will definitely be Dark Gathering, which has just been confirmed to be getting a TV adaptation in Japan.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Dark Gathering anime, including the plot, production adaptation and introductory commentary by the team behind this new scary TV series.
What is the dark pool?
Dark Gathering is a supernatural horror manga series by Kenichi Kondo that tells the story of Keitarou Gentouga, a college student who hates ghosts but, ironically, seems to have a habit of attracting spirits.
Unfortunately, an incident occurred two years ago where a spiritual interaction caused the death of a close friend, leaving Keitarou a resident with very poor social skills. The good news is that another childhood friend, Eko, is slowly helping him regain his self-confidence and standing in society.
“As part of his rehabilitation, Keitarou takes up a part-time job as a private teacher, and his first student is none other than Eiko’s cousin, Yayoi Houzuki. Besides being a child prodigy, there is another peculiarity about Yayoi – she has a spiritual constitution, just like Keitarou. With Keitarou accompanying Eiko and Yayoi on these supernatural side missions, he sets out to solve the mystery surrounding his affiliation with spirits as well as the truth behind the accident a few years ago.
Announcing the anime adaptation of Dark Gathering for 2023
This week, it was officially confirmed that an anime adaptation of the Dark Gathering manga is in development.
In addition to the announcement, the first trailer was shared online via Anime Pony Canyon’s YouTube channel along with a special promotional image.
The series is developed by Studio OLM, the team behind Pokemon, Komi Can’t Communicate, Odd Taxi, Cardfight Vanguard, and the original Berserk anime.
Dark Gathering is slated to debut in 2023, but unfortunately a more specific release date hasn’t been shared yet.
The series will be directed by Hiroshi Ikata, who directed Tonikawa: Over The Moon For You, with the main voice cast remaining currently.
Staff comment on the upcoming Dark Gathering anime
The creator of the original Dark Gathering anime series, Kenichi Kondo, said he was “very honored to be on the verge of becoming content more widely thanks to the generosity of readers who supported the story and the companies who agreed to turn it into an anime.”
“For the main points of the anime, we wanted to do something in the original story but couldn’t because of the length of the story, but we were able to incorporate it into the script. The additional elements are faithful to the original work and fully supervised by the original author. , which are not included in the manga, are all done with great care and attention to detail. Director Hiroshi Ikata added, “This is my first attempt at a horror anime, and I’m really excited about it.
