The Bundesliga club manager told Sky Germany that Josco Gvardiol has a lot of fans in the Premier League, but RB Leipzig has not received a “written offer” from Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur or Manchester City.
Making money from star players has become an annual tradition at Red Bull Arena. He left Dayot Uppicano, Ibrahim Konate and Marcel Sabitzer in 2021. 12 months ago, top scorer Timo Werner picked up the sticks and headed to Chelsea.
In the meantime, Nordi Mukele will be a Paris Saint-Germain player next season.
But those hoping to lure Gvardiol away from Leipzig were likely barking the wrong tree this summer. Champions League semi-finals 2020 do not want to sell. And most importantly, Gvardiol did not want to go.
“I’m really enjoying every day with this great team, at this top-tier club,” the 20-year-old Croatia international said last May. “I don’t think of anything else. And if you ask me if I will play here next year? Yes of course I will.”
Josco Gvardiol has a ‘big market’ in the Premier League
However, these public declarations of loyalty have not stopped a handful of Premier League clubs from beating their arms. Fabio Paratici made Gvardiol his goal in central defense before eventually landing on Clement Lenglet, according to the Daily Mail, with Newcastle United also a big fan.
Thomas Tuchel called out a one-off Leeds goal in a bid to lure him to Chelsea (Sport1).
BILD even claims that Manchester City made a bid of £67m. Leipzig’s technical director Chris Fifeel’s claim wasted no time in refuting it.
“No written offer has been received for Josko Gvardiol. There is no €80m offer either. Rising from the Red Bull boss.
“The player has a big market in England, but nothing has been officially announced. (There will be no) cuts this summer.”
Gvardiol still has four years left on his contract with RB Leipzig. If reports are to be believed, his market value has tripled less than two years after he joined the German giants from sister club Salzburg.
