The Fantastic Four #5 saw the character debut after being created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby (July 1962). Doctor Doom, ruler of the fictitious state of Latveria, has been portrayed as a super-villain and anti-hero, but is often presented as the worst opponent of the Fantastic Four.
In addition, Doom fought against Spider-Man, Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, X-Men and Avengers.

Doctor Doom came in at number three on IGN’s list of the 100 Greatest Comic Books of All Time and number four on Wizard’s list of 101 Greatest Villains of All Time. Doom will be announced as Marvel’s greatest villain in a later segment by IGN.
A number of mediums, including television shows, video games, and merchandise such as action figures and trading cards, have largely captured the comic book character.
Most notably, Joseph Culp portrayed Dr. Dom in the unreleased 1994 Roger Corman film, Julian McMahon in the 2005 film and its 2007 sequel, and Toby Kebbell in the 2015 film Fantastic Four feature films.

In my opinion, Dr. Dom represented imminent death as the Man in the Iron Mask. It served as a justification for the armor and cover.
