Gary Neville has suggested on Sky Sports Football (10:21pm, August 5, 2022) that Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta should start considering replacing Granit Xhaka in the squad.
The former Manchester United star made the comments while discussing where Arsenal need to boost their squad in the summer transfer window.
Neville believes midfield is an area Arsenal can do by bringing in a quality player, adding that Arsenal need to plan when Switzerland international midfielder Xhaka is suspended.
Xhaka started with Arsenal against Crystal Palace on Friday night and was shown a yellow card in the Premier League match at Selhurst Park.
Gary Neville on Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka
Neville said of Xhaka on Sky Sports Football (10:21pm, August 5, 2022): “Until Xhaka tonight, he’s booked. I always think he’s going to go and let you down.
“You will always be disappointed at some point in the season, so you think, you should plan for it now. You know it’s coming.”
Planning for the future
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has publicly stated that he plans to sign more deals in the summer transfer window.
The midfield is probably the area the Gunners need to bring in another player.
Now, of course, Oleksandr Zinchenko joined from Manchester City in the summer transfer window, but he is no longer among the “elite” yet.
Xhaka is a good player, but as we’ve seen time and time again, the £30m Swiss international (Sky Sports) midfielder picks too many yellow and red cards and misses important matches.
