How to turn off Restricted Mode

  • Open TikTok and go to your profile.
  • Click on the three lines in the upper right corner and click on Settings and Privacy.
  • Scroll down and tap on Digital Wellbeing.
  • Go to Restricted Mode and tap Stop.

Now, videos that TikTok stuff may not be suitable for some people will not be restricted and all videos will be shown regardless of the content.

TikTok is “strongly committed” to protecting minors

TikTok states in its Community Guidelines that it is “committed” to protecting the safety of minors on the platform.

“We prohibit activities that perpetuate abuse, harm, or endangerment or exploitation of minors on TikTok,” says TikTok.

Any content that is abusive, exploitative or endangering minors is removed upon discovery and some content is age restricted.

For example, account holders under the age of 16 cannot use direct messaging or host a live broadcast and their content will not appear on the For You page.

Account holders under the age of 18 cannot send or receive gifts using the app’s default gifting features.

Under TikTok’s Terms of Service, you must be at least 13 years old to use the platform, but some features will be restricted until you are over 18.

TikTok Restricted Mode cannot be turned off by users under the age of 18.

How to report a video on TikTok

Now that you have your Restricted Mode turned off, you may come across some malicious videos that are not suitable for TikTok.

If this is the case, you must report the video immediately. To report a video on TikTok:

  • Click on the video you want to report.
  • Click the arrow in the bar on the right side.
  • Click “Report” and specify the reason.

The reasons why you should report a TikTok video are:

  • Dangerous Goods and Challenges

  • Violent and graphic content
  • Intellectual property infringement

The person who made the video will not be told who reported it and your identity will remain anonymous.
