Rangers are said to be missing out on the Saint-Etienne winger Denis Bouanga this summer, with L’Equipe reporting that Gareth Bale’s new club Los Angeles FC will pay the asking price of £4.2m.

Bouanga, 27, is expected to leave Saint-Etienne this summer – after Les Vert suffered relegation. The Gabon international, 32 times, entered the last 12 months of his contract, and Rangers were among the clubs interested.

Reports have emerged this week that Rangers have made a bid – along with Club Brugge and Anderlecht. However, the Belgian teams and Rangers did not meet Saint-Etienne’s asking price of 4.2 million pounds.

LAFC made the biggest bid of £3m – but that still wasn’t enough. Now, L’Equipe has reported that LAFC has raised its initial offer to meet the asking price of Saint-Étienne. Bwanga appears ready to move to the United States.

Rangers to miss Bwanga: LAFC Bell close to deal

Rangers could do with another wing. Yes, they have Ryan Kent, Rabbi Matondo, Scott Wright, Fashion Scala, Malik Tillman and Tom Lawrence. But it seems likely that Lawrence and Tillman will play the role of No. 10.

For Wright and Sakala, they hardly set the world on fire. Good formation options, but certainly not good enough to start Champions League matches – if Rangers get there. Matondo and Kent are excellent.

But the tents only needed more than two, and Bouanga would have added to that. His years in the French league prove it. A deal of just over £4m, but it appears LAFC has won the race and Rangers will have to look elsewhere.

Gers will be next in action this weekend, when they host Kilmarnock in Ibrox – their first home game of the season. The next week, they faced Union Saint-Gilloise in the second leg, with a 2-0 lead to overturn.
