Spain’s public prosecutor is seeking an eight-year prison sentence for singer Shakira in a tax fraud case worth €14.5m ($14.8m / £12.2m), Reuters reports, but the rumor that the singer has been jailed is false.

Shakira is not in prison
Shakira is not in prison and has not been sentenced at this time. As reported by Sky News, the Spanish public prosecutor is seeking an eight-year prison sentence and a fine for the singer if she is convicted of tax fraud.
The singer, born Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, was accused of failing to pay 14.5 million euros in taxes to the Spanish government between 2012 and 2014.
Prosecutors said that in addition to the prison sentence, they will ask for a fine of 24 million euros if the singer is found guilty.
A representative of Shakira said in a previous statement: “The singer is fully confident in her innocence and therefore does not accept settlement.”
No trial date has been set at the time of writing.
