COE:It is regretful no teacher union fights for GES recruitment of newly trained teachers

The state of recruitment of newly trained teachers from the 46 colleges of education is in limbo as opening is delayed this year.

Apart from Teacher Trainees Association of Ghana (TTAG) fighting for a better condition of service for the heartbroken newly trained teacher who has undergone training and written many examination, many are contemplating about the position of teacher unions in this fight.

Many laments, that teacher unions remain quiet whenever issues of teacher’s recruitment pops up.

The entire newly trained teachers are calling on all the teacher unions to back the calls for the timely reopening of the portals even if it means going to the extent of scheduling a round table discussion with the finance ministry.

In addition to that, TTAG should also schedule a table engagement with the Finance Ministry.

This will give the opportunity for us to know why financial clearance up to now has not been given to GES for us to be recruited.

I think through that engagement, the finance ministry will clear the air for us whether they will still give clearance as soon as possible before the year ends or not.

If it comes out that financial clearance cannot be given for us to be recruited, then TTAG can make an appeal to his excellency the president to use his executive powers and intervene for us.

These engagements can go alongside with the press conferences for the public to know how the government is about to betray us.

We have really exalted the leadership of TTAG so far. We pat on their backs in the fight of the NTC wahala but it is not over yet.

They should still maintain and use the boldness they used against NTC and GES and face the Finance Ministry and his excellency the president.

If TTAG had not engaged convincingly with NTC, who knows how this portfolio assessment would have turned out to be for us. Anything is still possible.

We plead that they shouldn’t rest on their laurels.
God help those who help themselves.

It is regrettable that none of the teacher unions is speaking for us. Meanwhile, if it is the postings that we secure today, they are the one that will be following us for membership.
