At Thursday’s press conference – according to Leeds United YouTube – Jesse Marsh said seven top players will miss Saturday’s game against Wolves at Island Road, including Liam Cooper and Luis Sinisterra.
Leeds have been incredibly busy in the transfer window. He brought in six new players in Sinisterra, Tyler Adams, Brenden Aaronson, Rasmus Kristensen, Marc Roca and Darko Gyabi. Ravenha and Calvin Phillips left for £100m.
But like last season, Leeds are not without injuries – at this early stage. Captain Cooper suffered an injury while running on a treadmill to hit his Achilles. Dan James is suspended. Luke Ayling and Stewart Dallas are long-term injuries.
Both underwent surgery. Sinistera sustained a hamstring injury in Australia against Crystal Palace, but is back in training. Marsh also said Saturday will come too early for Junior Firpo and Adam Furshaw, but they’re not far away.
“Dan James is on hold. He’s going to play 90 minutes of 21s tomorrow night at his request. Cooper has an Achilles problem. This week, he’s finally been on the field doing a singles job. Hopefully by next week.”
“Firpo is ahead of schedule, but still probably 2-3 weeks away from qualifying for the match. Forshaw has made good progress on his MCL knee problem, but we hope to train next week. Ayling made progress and ahead of schedule.
“Lewis is on the field today and is near his top speed, hopefully he will be available the weekend after the following. Stewart Dallas is also making good progress, he’s had two checks,” Marsh said in his press conference.
Marsh: Seven Leeds players missing from Wolves game
As bad as it sounds, James is stopped and has since red carded against Wolverhampton. Aaling and Dallas both suffered injuries throughout pre-season and entered the substitutions. So short-term injuries are only four.
James will be available next week. Cooper may be in contention next weekend. Maybe Firpo by the end of the month, and Forsho. Although it doesn’t look good at first, it’s not the end of the world – thanks in large part to the newcomers.
