Speaking on the Ranks FC Podcast, Dean Jones took a look at the upcoming Premier League season, and was discussing Tottenham Hotspur.
Tottenham are entering this campaign with an element of excitement surrounding the club. They had a great finish to last season, they have one of the best coaches in the world and to say the least the summer transfer business was fantastic.
The likes of Ivan Perisic, Yves Bisuma and Richarlison are all exciting additions who could debut this weekend, but according to Jones, one of the new signings who won’t start against Southampton is Clement Lenglet.
In fact, the journalist spoke to someone associated with the club and heard that Ben Davies will retain his spot in Tottenham’s left center back for the start of the season.
What was said?
Jones shared what he knows about Lenglet who didn’t start before Davis.
“I still feel like they’re missing something. Lenglet as a defensive signing wasn’t their first choice but they ended up with him and I don’t know how good he is anymore,” said Jones.
“The season probably won’t start, I spoke to someone who told me Ben Davies will probably start as a centre-back on the left at the start of the season.”
he got it
Davies will start the season in the heart of Tottenham’s favorite defense on the left side and, to be honest, he deserves it.
The Welshman barely missed a foot in this last turn after Antonio Conte arrived, and it was very difficult to bring him down at this point.
Yes, an upgrade can be done there and hopefully Lenglet will eventually be the man who can take Spurs’ defense to the next level, but for now, it’s Davis’ place to lose.
Lenglet will get his shot, but Conte appears to be trusting Davis to continue his good work to start the season.
In other news, the Leeds player who starred under Bielsa is now determined to leave, he could join the former club.
