Katherine Ryan says J-Lo taking Ben Affleck’s name ‘makes no sense’

Last week, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez tied the knot in a quiet ceremony, just three months after announcing their engagement in April.

This is actually the pair’s second engagement, as Ben first proposed to the Hustlers in November 2002. Two years later, in January 2004, they confirmed their split.

20 years after their first engagement, Ben and-J Lo are now officially husband and wife. While fans were sharing their excitement for the couple online, Kathryn Ryan stirred fate by sharing a tweet about J-Lo’s new nickname.

J-Lo and Ben Affleck tied the knot

On July 16, J-Lo and Ben tied the knot at A Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. J-Lo shared the news with fans in her On The J-Lo newsletter, writing, “So with the best witnesses you can imagine, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we read our private vows in the chapel and gave each other the rings we’d wear for the rest of our lives.”

The dress in question was a sleeveless Alexander McQueen gown that the actress and singer originally wore on the Jersey Girl label. She also chose another dress for the occasion – an off-the-shoulder Zuhair Murad dress.

Their minister, Ryan Wolfe, said you could “certainly” see the love that Ben and Ji Lo had for each other.

He told People, “They definitely do care and really love each other. I’ve probably had 10,000 weddings now, and by this point in my life I feel like there are husbands – I can really tell that was real.”

Katherine Ryan Confused About J-Lo’s Name Decision

Comedian Kathryn Ryan shared a tweet following the news that J-Lo has chosen to take the nickname Affleck. I wrote Online: “Changing your name makes very little sense to me, but it makes absolutely no sense when your name is Jennifer Lopez and you’re J-Lo, Jenny from the Block, and you’ve ridden the 6 day and night to grow that name but it’s okay, Jen Affleck… “

The tweet references Jenny from the Block, J-Lo’s 2002 hit single about her roots. The song repeatedly mentions the words “I’m still Jenny from the block,” and the message tells that no matter what fame or fortune came to J-Lo, she’ll always remember where she came from.

Ryan’s tweet was met with a backlash from some of the women who contacted her for criticizing J-Lo’s decision.

Controversy over J-Lo’s nickname sparked a tweet

One person replied: “Bad shape!! some women [sic] They want to change their name when they get married… It made them feel bad because they made that senseless choice! Support your female colleague and her right to make independent choices.”

Others also jumped into J-Lo’s defense, with one Twitter: “She never said she change her name professionally like..? JLo is her brand and always will be JLo. She simply changed her legal/personal name which most people do when they get married. It’s her prerogative either way and there’s nothing to be pressed against.”

Many have pointed out that even though the star has legally changed her name, she still engages with J-Lo on social media and professionally as she always has.
