Meaning of Beyoncé’s ‘Monica Lewinsky’d on my gown’ lyric explained

A day after announcing that she was removing a capable slander from her new track Heated, Beyoncé was asked to change into another song.

The 40-year-old artist released her seventh studio album, Renaissance, on Friday (July 29), featuring 16 hit songs.

However, it was heavily criticized because the eleventh song on the album contained a derogatory slander for people with a condition called spastic hemiplegia.

Spastic hemiplegia is a form of cerebral palsy that causes motor impairments in the legs or arms, and many believe the lyric characterizes people with disabilities.

After the backlash, a spokesperson for Beyoncé revealed that the singer will remove the capable slander on Tuesday (August 2) — but now Bay is under fire again.

Monica Lewinsky is asking the Break My Soul singer to remove a poem about her in the 2013 Bey song section — but what does “Monica Lewinsky’d on my gown” mean?

Suggests Monica Lewinsky Beyonce My lyric must change

American activist, television personality, and former White House intern Monica Lewinsky has suggested that Beyoncé remove the lyric for her, too.

On Twitter, she replied to a miscellaneous article about the Qadir slander and wrote: “Umm, while we are in it… #to divide. “

She references a line on the singer’s 2013 track, which was part of her fifth album, Beyoncé.

The lyrics read: “Oh, he’s so cool, yeah, he wants to unbutton all my buttons, he ripped off my blouse / Monica Lewinsky was all over my dress.”

Monica first spoke about the lyric in 2014, saying in an interview with Vanity Fair, “Thanks, Beyoncé, but if we’re talking, I think you mean ‘Bill Clinton was wearing my dress’.”

What does Monica Lewinsky’s poem mean?

The line refers to the sex scandal between Monica Lewinsky and President Bill Clinton in the 1990s. Clinton was married to Hillary, while Lewinsky was a 24-year-old White House intern.

During a speech in January 1998, the president denied under oath that he had “sexual relations” with Lewinsky. However, he later admitted to having “inappropriate intimate physical contact”.

Bill Clinton went to trial on 11 counts on December 19, 1998, including perjury, obstruction of justice, witness tampering and abuse of power.

The impeachment report also included explicit details of the sexual relationship he had with Lewinsky. Those revelations included that in November 1997, Monica Lewinsky told a friend that she was wearing a blue dress that still bore the stigma that resulted from a sexual encounter with Clinton in February of that year, according to famous trial reports.

In July 1998, Lewinsky handed over the dress to Kenneth Starr investigators after signing an immunity agreement. The FBI concluded that Clinton had sourced the stain on the dress to a “reasonable degree of scientific certainty”.

Lizzo removes tear-able from the track Grrrls

Beyoncé’s singing backlash comes just months after Lizzo used the same amount on her song Grrrls, which was released at the beginning of June.

Like the Lemonade singer, she quickly changed the song and re-released the song, which is part of her new album Special.

The 34-year-old also made a public apology on Instagram on June 13, writing: “It has been brought to my attention that there is a harmful word in my new song GRRRLS.

“Let me make one thing clear, I never want to promote derogatory language. As a fat black woman in America, I used many hurtful words against me so I understood the power of words you can have.”

The singer added that she was “proud” to say that a new version of the song was released with a lyrical change and said she was “listening and taking action.”

“As an influential artist, I have dedicated myself to being a part of the change I have been waiting to see in the world,” concluded the star.
