It will be interesting to see if Darwin Nunez starts at Liverpool this weekend.
The Reds kicked off their Premier League title bid by visiting newly promoted Fulham on Saturday afternoon.
Nunez joined Liverpool earlier this summer and became the club’s most expensive addition ever, following a £85m transfer from Benfica.
With skyrocketing prices comes enormous pressure to succeed in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old opened his account with a debut goal in last week’s 3-1 win over Manchester City in the Community Shield, a game in which he started off the bench.
Roberto Firmino started in front of him as the focal point of Liverpool’s attack.
But Paul Merson, speaking to Sportskeeda, hinted that he feels coach Jurgen Klopp should drop the Brazilian killer for his Uruguayan teammate at Craven Cottage.
He said, “I’m going to start Darwin Nunez in this game. I’m just saying this because this is not a match against one of the big six, and you know Liverpool are going to dominate. Nunez needs to play in the games he knows he’s going to score in, and this is a great match for him to make his debut in Premier League.
Klopp is a huge fan of Firmino and last week described him as the “heart and soul” of Liverpool [The Guardian]amid speculation that the former Hoffenheim striker could leave Anfield.
And, to be honest, it is very likely that the German coach will indeed keep his faith in the 30-year-old and leave Nunez in reserve.
Say what you will about Firmino, but he has been a fantastic player for the Merseysiders over the years and is not far behind to terrorize the newly promoted club this weekend.
