MoE to Recruit University Graduates as Financial Clearance has been Requested

Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education has disclosed a request Monday was sent to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) for financial clearance to be given to the Ghana Education Service for this year’s graduates recruitment.

The Education Minister and Bosomtwe Member of Parliament in an interview monitored by EducationWeb said his outfit when given the clearance by the Finance Minister would inform the Education Service to begin the recruitment.

“We this morning sent a request to the Ministry of Finance for financial clearance to recruit the graduates, they did the basic school clearance for us now we are going to request graduate clearance,” Hon Osei Adutwum said on Monday.

He late December last year assured his outfit after the newly trained teachers from the Colleges of Education recruitment process will request clearance to recruit graduate teachers who completed universities in the country.

The MoE official in 2021 said the Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) will only consider graduate teachers who have completed national service and passed the teacher licensure examination for the 2022 recruitment.

“We last year petitioned the Ministry of Finance to increase the clearance for graduate teachers to be recruited in 2021 but it was agreed for only 16,850 newly trained teachers to be recruited and the graduates later this year,” he stated.

The Education Ministry staff furthered that “MoE is hoping mid-January or late February this year, the Finance Ministry gives financial clearance for graduates to be employed by the Ghana Education Service to support Free SHS/TVET.”

Adutwum also disclosed the Education Ministry as part of efforts to improve the process of posting trained teachers is considering introducing E-deployment, a placement system for new teachers to select areas to be posted to.

“It is something we are working on, the E-deployment as described by the Education Minister will give new teachers to be recruited the opportunity to select rural areas to be posted with incentives and other juicy packages,” he said.

The Education Minister following the impending recruitment has advised graduates seeking to be employed to pay attention to job announcements put out by his outfit in terms of what criteria the recruitment financial clearance is.

“The Ministry of Education and Ghana Education Service usually announce the recruitment teachers on our various social media handles, I will urge those seeking to be recruited this year to pay attention to such adverts,” he noted.
