With the spotlight on his relationship, fans have been looking back on his romance with Monyetta Shaw, his ex-wife before he married Smith.
Shaw claimed to the New York Post that she agreed to have her tubes tied on the grounds that Ne-Yo would also be sterilized – he went on to have children with Smith. However, Ne-Yo refuted Shaw’s allegations and claimed that they had just decided they “didn’t want” more children.

In 2016, Monyetta Shaw claimed to The Post that she tied her tubes after she and Ne-Yo discussed sterilization “totally” in the months leading up to the birth of their second child. She claimed that Ne-Yo “also agreed to undergo a vasectomy to show our mutual commitment to the relationship.”
After Shaw gave birth to their second child, Mason, the doctor performed a sterilization procedure for her. She said she “didn’t regret it”.
“I was so busy taking care of two young children, I just assumed that Ni Yu went through with the operation and got a vasectomy. I trusted him so much that it didn’t even cross my mind that he didn’t go through it,” Shu said.
However, Ne-Yo refuted Shaw’s claims in 2014 when he told Hello Beautiful, “As a family, we decided we didn’t want any more kids. As soon as we learned our second child was a boy, we were in the office talking about ‘Yes!’ We were done.” ‘ The doctor hit us with the option. If we did, we did. Shaw and Ne-Yo met in 2009 at a Jimmy Foxx concert in Louisiana and proposed to the singer a year later during a weekend in the Dominican Republic.

In June 2013, two months before their wedding, the couple separated. In September 2015, Ne-Yo announced that he was engaged to Crystal Smith and they were expecting a child. In February 2016 they tied the knot.
Shaw said, “Now I look back and wonder what I was thinking. I love so badly, and I’ve made many enduring decisions based on what I thought a man wanted from me, not what I wanted for myself. When my daughter comes of age, I’ll tell her, ‘Your body is your structure. Don’t do anything you don’t want to regret.”
Smith accuses Ne Yu
Crystal Smith and the singer married in 2016 and have three children together – Shaffer Shimmer Jr., Roman Alexander Raj and Isabella Rose.
However, Smith has now written an Instagram post accusing her husband of cheating.
She wrote: “To say I am heartbroken and disgusted is an understatement. My demand to stay and accept that is absolute madness.”
Smith said she gained “three beautiful children” from the relationship but claimed there were also “years lost and heartache”.
Ne-Yo responds to wife’s allegations
On July 31, Ni Yu replied To the accusations, she tweeted: “For the sake of our children, my family and I will work on our challenges behind closed doors. Personal matters are not meant to be addressed and dissected in public forums.”
The singer also posted a short clip on his Instagram story by someone else. It features a man’s voice saying, “Even if you hear a bad story about me, first understand, there was a time I was fine with these people, but they won’t tell you.”
