Alexander Arthur Van Halen was born the son of Jan van Halen, jazz musician and Eugenia Van Beers, of Indian descent. Interest in music
Because of their father’s profession, Alex and his younger brother Edward were interested in music from an early age and trained as classical pianists. However, as the two brothers got older, they were influenced by the rock movement from England and thus developed an interest in playing more musical instruments.
While his brother Eddie was more interested in drums, Alex developed an interest in guitar and began taking flamenco guitar lessons while still in elementary school.
