Tony Kasparino backed Oleksandr Zinchenko to make Gabriel Martinelli a better player after Arsenal’s new signing from Manchester City made his stunning debut at Crystal Palace.

Oleksandr Zinchenko ‘very comfortable’ in Arsenal debut against Crystal Palace

Tony Caskarino sparked a singing sensation over Oleksandr Zinchenko on TalkSPORT after the Ukraine international gave an inspiring debut performance as Arsenal beat Crystal Palace 2-0. The former Chelsea man feels the defender will allow Gabriel Martinelli to reach his full potential.

Mikel Arteta has given Zinchenko his own competitive bow at Selhurst Park with Kieran Tierney who only fits on the bench. The Scot suffered a limited spell before the season as he continued to recover from a knee injury, which required surgery at the end of last season.

Arsenal signed Zinchenko during the slack season to give Arteta a better cover at left-back than Nuno Tavares did last season. Costing Arsenal £32m from Manchester City, he agreed to a four-year contract on the back of winning his fourth Premier League title.

Zinchenko made his Arsenal debut at Crystal Palace behind Martinelli on the left flank. He also reached out to the Brazilian to break the deadlock in the first half by rerouting Bukayo Saka’s corner into the heart of the six-yard Eagles.

Cascarino is confident that the Ukraine international will now help Martinelli unleash his full potential at Emirates, having been captivated by the addition of Arsenal.

“Zinchenko on the ball, I mean, wow!” Cascarino said. “He just keeps the ball for fun. He’s very comfortable and not only at full-back, but retracts into the midfield, as a lot of Manchester City players do.

“Martinelli will never have a better chance of having a left-back and a wide vice to help him become a better player.”

In addition to helping Martinelli at Crystal Palace on Friday, Zinchenko came close to scoring on his Arsenal debut. But Vicente Guaita managed to avoid the full-back’s attempt in the early stages. Its influence has also waned as the game continues after some active forays.

In the meantime, Martinelli will have left Selhurst Park feeling he could have done more with his chances in south London. The striker missed an early opportunity to break the deadlock with his shot off the past after Gabriel Jesus slashed down a reckless trajectory.
