He claimed that Newcastle United are considering a third bid for Leicester City and England playmaker James Maddison – after turning down two previous offers in the past two weeks.
Madison, 25, had an amazing season last season, scoring 30 goals in 53 games. However, he has entered the final two years of his contract and Leicester is struggling financially.
He has already seen Kasper Schmeichel leave the club to join Nice. Wesley Fofana has been linked with a big move to Chelsea. Leicester is in a position where he needs to spend, but doesn’t have the money to do so.
Madison may be another victim. But Leicester are committed to his £60m valuation. Newcastle made two offers, both of which were rejected. Now, I’m claiming they can come back with a third show.
Newcastle considering Madison’s third bid
The City of Leicester has rights to demand a fee of £60m for Madison. Still only 25 years old, he’s English and he’s a great player in shape. He was arguably one of the most brilliant playmakers in England last season.
It is easily worth the money. While Newcastle have the money, Financial Fairplay will be on their minds as they are desperate not to spend on the odds. A £10m deal for goalkeeper Nick Pope is a case in point.
So while “enormous” Madison would be a stunning signing for Toon, both clubs are right to ask for what they want – but not overspend. Can find a middle ground? The extras may be crucial to the deal.
Reports also suggest that Newcastle may include Martin Dubravka in a deal. Leicester need a goalkeeper and Bob is now the number one choice on Tyneside. Perhaps, a fee of between £45m and £50m, Dubravka could be tempted.
In other news, Ezjan Alewski has joined a new club – and could help Leeds United sign an unwanted striker.
