Newly Qualified Teachers hold Press Conference Against NTC Portfolio Assessment

Earlier this week, NTC scheduled a portfolio assesment for all the newly qualified teachers across the country. the news came as a shock to all the newly trained teachers.

This is simply because, there was no official communication from the National Teaching Council. There has not been any intensive orientation on how to even prepare the portfolio.

They only saw pdfs that contains their names, schools, places of postings and the name of their assessors. Some of the teachers took it upon themselves to enquire from NTC why they were not informed about this portfolio assessment from the genesis of their induction course. But all their effort proved futile.

This morning, well meaning newly qualified teachers in the Hohoe municipality have decided to hold a press conference in other to register their displeasure about the portfolio assessment and also to provide avenue for NTC to come out out and speak on the portfolio assessment and the way forward. The press conference also seeks to provide strong stance on why the teachers portfolio should be given the needed education and not just a rushed policy by the National Teaching Council (NTC).

In order news, a one of the newly qualified teachers (name witheld) have also been threatened with reasons that the Press conference seeks to make the government of the day unpopular. This is a very bad practice in a country where we claim democracy is our bedrock. The press conference as organized is purely unpolitical or has no political affiliation as this is purely teachers business.

Some of the media houses present include ; Citi tv, GH One, Joy News, Heritage fM and also Lorlornyo FM among others . The venue for the press conference is De villa, opposite Matvin Hotel at Hohoe.
