Plans are underway to increase NSS Allowance- NSS Spokesman

The National Service Scheme (NSS), after releasing the postings of over 81,000 graduates from accredited tertiary institutions for the 2021/2022 academic year says the personnel in August 2022 will end national service.

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the National Service Secretariat, Armstrong Essah speaking in an interview monitored by EducationWeb.com.gh said September 2022 will be paid terminal leave for the service personnel.

“NSS has announced for the national service personnel to start the national service from October this year but they are going to end the Service in August 2022 and then September becomes their paid terminal leave,” Mr Essah stated.

Asked if the allowance for service personnel has been increased, the spokesman for the Ghana Service Scheme said prospective personnel will be paid an amount of GH¢ 559.04. He said consultations are underway for an increase.

National Service year usually starts in September and ends in August, but amid the outbreak of the global coronavirus pandemic and its effect on the academic calendar, the Scheme Wednesday, October 6, 2021, released the postings.

The Ghana National Service announcing the release of 81,081 graduates postings indicated the national service postings of some graduates have been put on hold due to mistakes detected in their online registration details

“Some prospective personnel have been placed on hold for further verification due to discrepancies in their online registration details. Notifications have been sent to the affected personnel,” the National Scheme noted in the release.

The affected students are to visit any regional office of NSS with a copy of enrolment forms, Students ID, any national ID and soft copy of their passport picture save with their NSS number as a file name to clear them for postings.

Successfully posted graduates have been urged to log on to the Scheme’s website https://nss.gov.gh to confirm the specifics of their placements before visiting their respective user agencies to endorse their letters of appointment.

To minimize excessive crowds at the registration centres, NSS has urged all posted national service personnel are required to schedule an appointment online and visit the centres on the scheduled date and time for validation.

“It is important to note that postings registration should be completed by Friday, November 5, 2021. NSS urges graduates posted and accepted by user agencies to begin national service on Monday, October 11, 2021,” it said.
