According to Sky Sports, Everton is interested in signing Conor Coady from Wolves.
The England international appears to be out of the account at Molyneux as the Midlands club prepare to move into a defensive quadruple, and the Toffee is keen to bring him to Goodison Park.
However, there are bound to be some contradictory feelings at play here.
As a homegrown player, a return to Merseyside might appeal to Coady, but he would probably prefer joining Liverpool rather than Everton.
In fact, Cody has made no secret in the past that he is a Liverpool fan, and that could affect how Everton fans view this deal.
What was said?
Cody set a record for speaking out about supporting Liverpool in 2019.
He said: “Everyone knows that I supported Liverpool growing up but I’m playing for Wolverhampton now.”
“I look at Liverpool’s results and hope they win matches – it’s that simple.
“But I play for Wolverhampton now and I play for this football team no matter who we play against. We are going there to win and that is the mentality we all have.
“My colleagues are all Liverpool season ticket holders. They keep telling me things about them. I’ve had millions of ticket requests, millions ever. I don’t know how I’m going to do that to be honest.”
Cody may be a Liverpool fan, but if he joins Everton he will surely give everything he has for the Toffees.
Football players may have their favorite teams, but at the same time they are professionals who get good money to do their work.
We’ve seen fans from either club cross that boundary in the past, Jimmy Carragher, Steve McManaman and Robbie Fowler were all from Everton before joining Liverpool, and they didn’t do it too badly at Anfield, did they?
Cody’s allegiances with Liverpool will certainly be a moot point should this deal happen, but it will likely not affect his performance with the Toffees if he joins.
