Danny Murphy writes in the BBC’s Sports Predictions column, the emerging rivalry between Darwin Nunes and Erling Haaland.
These two strikers were compared all summer. Both are goal-scoring machines signed with England’s top two teams, and there has been a lot of controversy over which player would have a better season.
Indeed, while Haaland is the most proven scorer, Nunez’s performance in the Community Shield suggests he could hit the ground running in England.
Murphy, despite his affiliations with Liverpool, expects Haaland to get off to a better start, noting that the Norwegian has a bit more experience at the top level.
What was said?
Murphy has issued his verdict on the Premier League’s most exciting striker.
“I would expect Haaland to settle down a bit faster than Nunez, just because he’s got a little bit of experience, but maybe that’s a bit unfair on Nunez because right away he looks like a real threat and full of energy. They’re going to toe with City again.
remains to be seen
Nunez and Haaland are both hoping to hit the ground running in the Premier League, and while Haaland might look a little more poised to be an instant star, you simply never know until they play a few games.
Players from the Bundesliga can struggle in England, just look how Haaland’s former team-mate Jadon Sancho got on last season.
Meanwhile, Luis Diaz, Nunez’s former rival in the Portuguese league, was an overnight star in the Premier League after joining Liverpool, and there is no reason why the Uruguayan should not pursue that path.
It’s definitely going to be an exciting battle between these two, and it wouldn’t be surprising at all if they were both in the Golden Boot conversation at the end of the season.
