Speaking on the Transfer Talk Podcast, Sky Sports journalist Pete Graves advised Newcastle to make at least one surprise signing this summer.
In the age of information and social media, the transfer market is more secretive than ever, but sometimes, you get wiped out by a lightning bolt from the blue signature.
Aston Villa signed Danny Ings last summer without any kind of speculation, while Fabio Vieira joined Arsenal before any media could even breathe rumours.
Newcastle haven’t been the best at keeping things a secret in recent months, but according to Greaves, the Magpies are much better at keeping things cool.
In fact, the journalist says he expects Newcastle to make some signings out of nowhere this summer.
What was said?
Greaves has discussed the possibility of Newcastle making some surprising signings.
“Can Newcastle sign an unexpected person like Victor Osimhen or Moussa Dembele who has not been mentioned in the media?” Greaves asked.
“To answer your question, can Newcastle sign someone unexpected? Yes, 100 per cent. We have a thing at Sky where we get all our marks before we break anything. As a result, we don’t tell stories as quickly as we can,” said Graves.
“James Madison, we knew long before we saw him anywhere, but we had to get confirmation from the selling club and representatives of the player and the buying club.
“The problem with Newcastle is that it is difficult to get any information from the club, Newcastle are short of water. I totally think that Newcastle will sign one or two players where you will say ‘I didn’t expect it’. That will happen with these new owners.
“Yes, I think Newcastle will sign players that have not been reported anywhere.”
Thrilling
It looks like Newcastle United have been very slow to act in this summer transfer window, but this update just shows that there’s a lot going on that we don’t know about.
If Newcastle really keeps quiet and stops any leaks, there could be anything on the horizon for Tyneside FC.
Players who are not on fans’ radars can join at any time, and this makes the Magpies one of the most exciting teams in the Premier League to watch.
In other news, Alan Shearer predicts one of Arsenal’s summer deals is about to ‘bloom’ under Arteta.
