Solar Storm to hit Earth on Aug 3 as NASA warns of sun’s increased activity

A high-speed solar storm emerging from a “hole” in the Sun’s atmosphere will hit Earth’s magnetic field on Wednesday, August 3, but, fortunately, not as strong. NASA has also warned of an increase in Sun’s activity recently.

On planets like Earth that have a strong magnetic field, solar debris is absorbed. This, in turn, causes geomagnetic storms.

The magnetic field of our planet is slightly compressed by the waves emitted by these high-energy particles.

Strong geomagnetic storms can disrupt Earth’s magnetic field enough for satellites to return to our planet. Scientists have warned that a severe storm could damage internet connections around the world and also cause power outages.

Solar storm to hit Earth on August 3

According to Space Weather, (as reported by Live Science), forecasters at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (SWPC) Space Weather Prediction Center have made a prediction about a solar storm hitting Earth on August 3 after noticing that “gaseous material is pouring out of the southern hole into the atmosphere.” to the sun.”

But the storm will be weak. The G1 geomagnetic storm will cause minor effects and fluctuations in power grids and affect the operation of some satellites, such as those intended for mobile devices and GPS systems.

It will reportedly bring the aurora borealis as far south as Michigan and Maine.

NASA warns of increased solar activity

NASA claims that the sun has become more active over the past few years. The star at the center of our solar system appears to operate in an 11-year cycle, during which its activity and intensity increase and decrease.

For non-directors, the Sun’s activity is measured by the number of sunspots on the surface of the star. They are counted every day since 1755.

During an 11-year period, there is a “sun minimum” point, which is the fewest sunspots, and a “maximum sun” point when there are maximum sunspots.

“The Sun’s activity has ramped up rapidly, and while we haven’t reached peak levels in this cycle, the Sun’s activity is already exceeding expectations,” NASA Heliophysics Division Director Nicola Fox said in a blog post last week.

“Solar events will continue to increase as we approach our solar maximum in 2025, and our lives and technologies on Earth, as well as satellites and astronauts in space, will be affected.”

What is the biggest solar storm to date?

According to scientists, the largest solar storm in modern history was the Carrington event of 1859. It happened at the beginning of the year and they released almost the same amount of energy as 10 billion 1 megaton atomic bombs.

Solar particles used to have fried telegraph systems all over the world. It also caused bright aurora borealis in the far south, as well as in the Caribbean.
