Chris Sutton wonders how Antonio Conte included Richarlison in the Tottenham Hotspur squad after signing the Brazilian striker from Everton when he already had Dejan Kulusevski.
Chris Sutton feels it will be ‘interesting’ to see where Richarlison fits into Tottenham’s signature
Antonio Conte has a welcome headache as he picks his options in attack after Tottenham Hotspur signed Richarlison from Everton. That’s according to Chris Sutton, who suggested in a column for BBC Sport that it would be ‘interesting’ to see where the striker would fit in now.
Richarlison has moved to North London club Merseyside after joining Tottenham in an initial £50m deal, up to £60m after additions. The 25-year-old also signed a five-year contract in the capital, after four seasons at Goodison Park after reaching a £35m deal, worth £50m.
Conte now has a wealth of offensive weapons at his disposal as he strives to move forward after finishing fourth in the Premier League. Although Richarlison will miss Tottenham’s match against Southampton because he will be banned from one match for igniting him last season.
The FA suspended Richarlison for his actions after the match-winning goal for Everton at home to Chelsea on May 1. He scored the only goal in a 1-0 match, en route to ending the season with 10 attempts from 30 games, along with five assists, as the Toffees’ top scorer.
Richarlison now joins an attacking arsenal consisting of last season’s Premier League Golden Boot winner Son Heung-min, as well as Harry Kane and Dejan Kulusevsky. His son and Liverpool star Mohamed Salah shared the major titles with 23 goals, while Kane scored 17 goals and Kolosevsky with five goals.
Antonio Conte is embarrassed to attack the fortunes at Tottenham
Sutton feels Richarlison’s signing with Spurs has embarrassed Conte into attacking fortunes with Son, Kane and Kulusevsky. The Italian also still has Lucas Moura in north London in football. London Conte’s report to the Brazilian has said he will not leave Tottenham this summer.
“There is a lot of excitement about Tottenham,” Sutton wrote. “But then it’s the same at the start of every season. I know Richarlison is suspended for this match, but it will be interesting to see how he fits into their squad after joining from Everton.
“Dianne Kulusevsky was really good after arriving in January, and we know how good Son Heung-min and Harry Kane are. So, I don’t know how Antonio Conte is going to include them all in his squad. However, it’s not a bad problem.”
Tottenham signed Kulusevski on an 18-month loan from Juventus for £8.5m in January with an option to buy the Sweden striker next summer for £29m. The 22-year-old will go on to score five goals and assist eight goals in 18 Premier League games for Tottenham.
