Eric ten Hag has now asked Manchester United to rival interest from Mikel Arteta at Arsenal and Jesse Marsh at Leeds United for the transfer of PSV winger Cody Gakbo.
Eric Ten Hag wants Manchester United to compete with Arsenal for Cody Jako
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has now added Eindhoven winger Cody Gakbo to his shopping list and he will be of interest to Arsenal and Leeds United. That’s according to The Mirror, who reported that the chief of the Red Devils had changed his plans from Ajax ace Antony.
Mikel Arteta and Jesse Marsh have told the Boren chiefs that they admire the Dutchman this summer. But neither team has agreed to an agreement with Philips Stadion clothing, as PSV will not allow the sale of Gakpo until the fate of the Champions League is decided.
PSV Eindhoven drew in the first leg of their third-round qualifier with Monaco in Ligue 1 this week. They will now host the Principality team in Eindhoven next Thursday for a place in the playoffs. The final matches for a place in the group stage will be played on 16/17 and 23/24 August.
Arsenal and Leeds are also aware that PSV Eindhoven will ask for £40m to sell Gakpo as the 23-year-old is highly rated in the Netherlands. But the price is half the figure that Ajax asked Manchester United for the Brazilian star Anthony, after they charged him with a price of 80 million pounds.
Ten Hag has been chasing Anthony as he is determined to sign another striker amid the uncertainty surrounding Cristiano Ronaldo. But the demands of Ajax made the Manchester United coach turn his attention to competing with Arsenal and Leeds in the deal to transfer Jacob from PSV Eindhoven.
Eric Ten Hag has a potential advantage over Mikel Arteta and Jesse March
Gakpo has attracted the interest of Arsenal, Leeds and now Manchester United through Ten Hag, having starred for PSV last season. The 23-year-old right-footed and left-footed player has scored 21 goals and 15 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions, often leading the side.
The Mirror also noted that Gakpo has drawn comparisons to Thierry Henry with his efforts at the Philips Stadion. The Dutch legend of seven players previously mentioned that the great Arsenal is one of his heroes. But Tin Hag could have an edge over Arteta and Marsh.
That’s because the soccer agency group, SEG, represents both Ten Hag and Gakpo – a PSV product that former Dutch striker Pierre van Hooydonk believes “has it all”. So, if the race heats up in late August for a strong winger on the ball, the Red Devils may now take the lead.
