Tottenham’s Premier League campaign kicks off on Saturday afternoon against Southampton and it’s fair to say that Tottenham are heading into this season as the favorites.
Indeed, big things are expected from the north London club after a summer of spending, and after a grueling previous season under Antonio Conte, Spurs should be eager to go.
Of course, there is never an easy game at this level, but Southampton had a poor end to last season and while they have spent money this summer, they have prioritized youth over quality.
Tottenham are expected to win this match, but on opening day performance sometimes matters more than the result.
With that in mind, we tried to anticipate a start to Spurs in the starting lineup for this match against the Saints.
Interestingly, we are only taking advantage of one of Spurs’ summer deals to start this match.
Dean Jones stated earlier this week that he has heard from someone in good contact within Tottenham that only Ivan Perisic will start this match of all the new signings, and that makes sense.
Spence’s grandfather barely had pre-season, Yves Bisuma is questionable due to injury, and Ben Davies did enough last season to hold his place for now — as did Dejan Kulusevsky.
So, this is a fairly familiar eleventh despite the summer of activity in the transfer market.
Matt Doherty is back from injury at full-back, while Christian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies make up the bulk of the defence.
Perisic starts from the left, while injury to Oliver Skipp and Psumma means Pierre-Emile Hogberg and Rodrigo Bentancur start in midfield.
Heung-Min Son and Harry Kane are rookies to this game, and they’re joined by Kulusevsky instead of Richarlison at the top on the occasion.
In other news, believe me: Arsenal have asked that £75m will tempt West Ham to sell a star player to Arteta
