Youth and early careers
Wendy is of Polish and Italian descent, grew up in Chicago, and was raised by her mother and stepfather as a Roman Catholic. Her stepfather is politician Bud Asher, known for serving as the mayor of Daytona Beach, Florida, for most of the 1990s and early 2000s. Despite her stepfather’s fame, she was mostly raised away from the spotlight, and was mainly raised by her mother who worked in modeling. His stepfather at that time was still active in his coaching career.

He practiced law until the 1950s, when he discovered a career as an American football coach. He worked at Stetson University while running several businesses in Florida, including nightclubs, hotels, and motels. During his career, he was best known for helping to promote Daytona Beach as a prime destination for spring breakers, following a sudden increase in spring break attendance in Fort Lauderdale. His campaign to promote Daytona was a huge success, earning him the nickname Springbreak’s father.
Training and Politics – Bad Asher
As Asher has developed a solid career in politics, he has also been a football coach for more than six decades. He started as a coach in high school and, after his stint at Stetson, also worked with Bethune-Cookman University. Ultimately, his coaching efforts attracted professional teams, and he became coach of the Jacksonville Sharks while running the now-defunct World Football League.
He was known for scouting the many players who would succeed in both college football and the National Football League (NFL), a skill that translated into a career as a talented scout in the NFL, where he worked for teams such as the Cincinnati Bengals, San Diego. Chargers and Oakland Raiders.
He also served as a district judge, before becoming a city commissioner in 1983, and served in that position for more than 12 years until he was elected mayor of Daytona Beach for an eight-year term, and was re-elected three times before retiring.
