Who is Joyce Carol Oates, author of book new Marilyn Monroe biopic is based on?

The trailer for Blonde, based on Joyce Carol Oates’ novel of the same name, has finally been released, and fans can get their first glimpse of Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monroe.

Starring Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julian Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams, Blonde will premiere on Netflix worldwide on September 28.

De Armas explained to Netflix Queue that she had read Oates’ novel to prepare for the role, as well as studying “hundreds of photographers, videos, audios, and films.”

Who is Joyce Carol Oates?

Joyce Carol Oates has written less than 60 books, as well as numerous plays, novels, short stories, poetry, and non-fiction. She was born in June 1938, which made her 84 years old.

She has received numerous honors for her work, including the Bram Stoker Prize in 1996, and the National Book Award in 1970. Oates has also received the Pulitzer Prize five times.

For 47 years, Oates was married to Raymond J. Smith, professor and editor at the Ontario Review. In 2008, he tragically passed away from complications caused by pneumonia. She later met and married neuroscientist Charlie Gross.

In an interview with The New York Review, Oates explained that writing is very natural to her.

She said, “I love working with language and (usually) imagining intermediate voices in novels of some complexity and originality, which can yield surprises in writing and an opportunity to explore some kind of vivid alternate reality.”

Why did Oates Blond write?

Oates told CNN in 2000 that she was inspired to write Blonde after seeing a photo of Norma Jeane, Marilyn Monroe’s real name, taken in 1944 when the star was just 17 years old.

“I saw in her a perfect American girl who didn’t look like the ‘Marilyn Monroe’ that would come, with her platinum blonde hair and synthetic hair and exaggerated glamour. My interest was exclusively in Norma Jane, who had curly brown hair on her shoulders and a very pretty face, not pretty, but very attractive. Oates said.

What does Oates think about blonde?
