Netflix has brought the public some hotly discussed documentaries lately, including The Most Hated Man On The Internet and Trainwreck: Woodstock 99. As the platform becomes increasingly prolific with its non-fiction content, we have another project to turn to.
Her most recent one is titled I Just Killed My Father and is as horrific as it sounds, giving true crime lovers a newer case to consider.
This limited three-episode series comes courtesy of Skye Burgman, who many will be familiar with as the director of the award-winning series, Abducted In Plain Sight. It explores the bizarre case of Anthony Templet, who shot and killed his father Burt Templet in 2019.
The documentary’s title refers to the moment Temple called 911 from his Baton Rouge, Louisiana, home, and told the operator, “You just killed my father.”

Anthony told officials on a 911 call on June 3, 2019 that he had killed his father in self-defense.
Fox8 Local First reports Burt and Anthony got into a heated argument over whether Anthony was in contact with Burt’s ex-wife. Anthony said the conflict escalated into a physical battle.
“He tried to attack me,” Anthony Templet told authorities. Then we got into a fistfight. Then I ran into his room and shut the door and got a gun. When I opened the door, he tried [inaudible] Then I shot him.”
Three days after the shooting, Burt died of his injuries and his son was arrested and charged with second-degree murder, Sports Keeda reports. The charge was reduced to manslaughter after Anthony’s family alleged that he had suffered a history of physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his father.
The documentary reveals that Anthony remains separated from his family and is never allowed to go to school. He is so isolated that his family hasn’t heard from him since 2008.
Digital Spy claims that Burt was increasingly abusive towards his son and armed himself while in their home.
Is Anthony Templet in prison?
No, Anthony Templet is not in prison.
Cinemaholic reported that he was offered a negligent killing plea in which he did not pledge any competition in early March 2021.
As a result, he was given five years’ probation with credit for the time he had already served and an order to obtain a high school diploma, secure a job or enter full-time education, while also attending counseling.

Live an incredibly hopeless life
Anthony Templet’s attorney – Garrett Ambo – spoke to the camera at I Just Killed My Dad to say he wished the young man had a better life.
“I have a strong desire and desire for Anthony to be successful in life,” Ambo said. “He lived an incredibly desperate life and no one stepped in to help him until he shot his father.”
Similarly, Clinical and Forensic Psychologist Dr. Catherine Lewing said: “Once you understand the full picture of this young man’s life, the totality of his experiences, that he will never be able to escape from his father, it becomes clear that he wants the abuse to stop and the only way to stop the abuse is He killed his father.”
