Will Smith apologizes to Questlove in video addressing Chris Rock slap

Will Smith apologized for withholding Koestloff’s Oscar win when he spoke the moment he stormed the stage at the party to slap Chris Rock in the face.

Talk of the infamous ’22 Oscar’s slap has fizzled out. But, months after this happened, Will released a video with a brand new apology. And this time, it’s targeting more people than just Kris

Why is Will Smith apologizing to Questlove?

One of the many criticisms of Will slapping Chris is how much attention he got – attention some felt should have been directed to the nominees and winners that night.

Which is why Will now apologizes to Questlove.

Questlove was not only one of the forgotten winners of that night, but the prize that Chris was giving away.

Questlove’s Summer of Soul won best documentary that night, but its celebration was delayed and widely overshadowed.

Questlove, whose real name is Ahmir Khalib Thompson, is an American musician and actor. Most important to Will, he is another member of the Philadelphia rap community.

Of course, the tyranny of his accomplishments isn’t necessarily worse than others — but for Will, that achievement, in particular, struck a chord.

What did Will Smith say?

Uploaded this evening, Will addresses the incident in a roughly six-minute video, taking turns to apologize to whoever he feels was wrong. One of them was Questlove.

“I still see Questlove’s eyes,” he says. “It happened at the Questlove Award, and ‘I’m sorry’ isn’t really enough.”

In the video, Will answers the audience’s questions about the accident. It’s his second public apology, and the first was right after he posted it on Instagram. The video was also uploaded to his social media sites.

With nearly 9 million subscribers and 64 million followers on Instagram, the video has already garnered hundreds of thousands of views in just a matter of hours. Although that means everyone will be talking about it again, Will states that he hasn’t yet spoken to Chris about it, because the comedian isn’t ready yet.

“I’ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk, and when he’s going to get in touch with him,” Will said. “So I’m going to tell you, Chris, I apologize to you. My behavior was unacceptable, and I’m here whenever I’m ready to speak.”
