Charles Evans wife

Charles Evans Hughes Sr., an American statesman, politician, and jurist who lived from April 11, 1862, to August 27, 1948, was the 11th Chief Justice of the United States from 1930 to 1941.

He served as the 44th U.S. Secretary of State (1921–1925), the 36th Governor of New York (1907–1910), an associate judge of the Supreme Court (1910–1916), and the Republican candidate for president of the United States in the 1916 presidential election. He was a member of the Republican Party.

Hughes, who graduated from Brown University and Columbia Law School, was born in Glens Falls, New York, to a Welsh immigrant preacher and his wife. Hughes practiced law in New York City.

Who is Charles Evans ?

David Charles Hughes, Hughes’ father, moved from Wales to the United States in 1855 after reading The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. David married Mary Catherine Connelly, whose family had lived in the country for several generations, and he later became a Baptist pastor in Glens Falls, New York.

On April 11, 1862, in Glens Falls, the lone child of David and Mary, Charles Evans Hughes, was born. The Hughes family first resided in Oswego, New York, before moving to Newark, New Jersey, and finally Brooklyn.

Hughes was schooled by his parents rather than receiving a formal education until 1874, with the exception of a brief stint spent attending Newark High School.
