R Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Wednesday, June 29, according to The Guardian. Before his sentencing by Federal Judge Ann Donnelly, a handful of women stood up to confront the 55-year-old singer.
Now, a month after his sentencing, rumors that the singer has escaped and got out of prison are still circulating.
Is R Kelly out of prison?
No, R Kelly is not out of jail. The singer did not escape from prison either.

Where did the misinformation originate?
The rumors about R Kelly escaping from prison originated from an Instagram post. The post falsely claimed on July 2 that the singer “escaped” from prison.
The post goes on to claim that R. Kelly “allegedly disappeared early this morning” and that “prison officials can confirm R Kelly’s escape via security footage.”
This, however, is not true.
R Kelly remains in prison, confirmed by USA Today, which entered the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ inmate database.
To add to this, even Instagram has labeled the said Instagram post as ‘misinformation’, which is further evidence that the rumors are untrue.
Why was R Kelly sent to prison?
The Guardian reported that the 55-year-old singer was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of sex trafficking and extortion.
R Kelly was arrested in 2019 and charged with nine counts: one count of racketeering and eight counts of violating the Mann Act, which prohibits transporting people across state lines to engage in prostitution. (Forbes)
