Ivana Hrinkiu responds after being told the skirt is too short

As reported by AL.com, Ivana Hrinkio said an ADOC official told her that the skirt and shoes she was wearing violated the prison dress code.

Hrynkiw, a reporter and managing producer at AL.com, visited the prison Friday (July 28) to report on the execution of Joe Nathan James Jr., who was sentenced to death for his previous murder in 1994, Sky News reports.

“Tonight, a representative from the Alabama Department of Corrections told me publicly that I could not watch the execution because my skirt was too short,” said Ivana. Wrote In a Twitter post.

“At 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches with my heels on, I am a tall, long-legged person. I tried to pull my skirt up to my hips to lengthen the skirt, but I was told it still didn’t fit.

“Fortunately, a very nice photographer from a Birmingham TV station gave me his rain gear.”

Hrinkiow then said after wearing the “loser hunter’s pants”, she was also told that her shoes were “too revealing.” After switching to tennis shoes, the reporter was finally able to watch the execution.

In her Twitter statement, Hrinkio claimed that she had worn the same skirt in previous executions.

Alabama Media Group editor-in-chief Kelly Ann Scott called the reporter’s treatment “unacceptable” and “unequal”.

“I am proud to work with Evana who, despite this treatment, has continued to professionally convey the story to our audience in Alabama,” said Kelly Ann Scott.

“This was sexist and a flagrant breach of professional conduct. It should not happen to any other reporter again.”

Alabama prison releases statement

In a statement to the publication, an ADOC spokesperson said there is a regulation in place regarding journalists covering executions.

“Within this regulation there is a dress code for all visitors including reporters who cover executions. All administrative regulations are posted on the ADOC website,” the spokesperson said.

“The guards of each ADOC facility enforce this dress code based on each event and current safety conditions. It will be ADOC’s future policy to remind all members of the media of this dress code prior to any media event held at an ADOC facility.

“We apologize for any confusion or inconvenience this law may have caused. We hope by including it in future media reports, we can avoid this kind of situation.”

Joe Nathan James Jr., 50, was executed by lethal injection.
