What happened at the 2009 VMAs with Kanye and Taylor?

The Shake it Off and Bad Blood artist was about to accept her award for Best Video by a Female Artist at the 2009 VMAs when Kanye interrupted her speech.

Taylor said on stage, “Thank you very much. I’ve always dreamed of what it would be like to win one of these one day, but I never thought it would actually happen. I sing country music. So thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to win a VMA!” “

At that moment, Kanye appeared on stage and took the microphone saying, “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I let you finish. But Beyoncé had one of the best videos ever! One of the best videos ever!”

Then the cameras turned to Beyoncé in the audience who was completely surprised by what happened.

Taylor made fun of the whole situation when she awarded Kanye the Video Vanguard Award at the 2015 VMAs.

“I’m really happy for you and I’m letting you finish, but Kanye has had one of the greatest careers ever,” Taylor said at the time.
