Who Is Richard Jones?  Teen Charged For Beating 73-year-old Man To Death With A Traffic Cone

After a 73-year-old man was reportedly beaten to death in Philadelphia with a traffic cone, a 14-year-old was reportedly charged with third-degree murder.

According to Fox 29 Philadelphia, the young man, named Richard Jones, is being tried as an adult and has also been charged with criminal conspiracy in connection with the June 24 death of James Lambert.

Police claimed Jones hit Lambert with a traffic cone first, and the station said it identified a female suspect who was seen hitting Lambert at least three times in the CCTV tape of the attack.

Fox News Digital contacted the Philadelphia Police Department for comment Wednesday, but they did not immediately respond.

Suspected of involvement in the beating, Jones and his 10-year-old brother turned themselves in to the Philadelphia Police Department’s murder squad on Monday.

According to Fox 29 Philadelphia, the police allegedly released the younger brother without any charges being brought.

Police have released disturbing security video of the incident, showing a gang of teens chasing the man along a street in northwest Philadelphia before hitting him with traffic cones just before 3 a.m.

While others were chasing the victim in the street, one of the young suspects appeared to have recorded the assault on a mobile phone.

Lambert was taken to hospital but died of his injuries the next day.

“I don’t understand what’s going on in our city,” Lambert’s niece, Tanya Stephens, told Fox 29 Philadelphia. “He’s walked this path for 60 or 70 years of his life, and for him to have his life taken away like that, it’s unbelievable.”

For information leading to the arrest and conviction of each accused, a reward of $20,000 was awarded.

Five other criminals, described by the Philadelphia Police Department as two black men and three black females in their early to mid-teens, remain at large.
