“That’s exactly what our story is.”
During a conversation with Collider, central star Sophia Carson opened up about the deeper meaning of the Purple Hearts title and what drew her to the project:
“What drew me to the story the most was the message. When I first read the title, I asked Liz if Purple Hearts meant it was a combination of a red and blue heart, and she laughed and said, ‘I didn’t think of it that way, but that’s exactly what our story is.'” We live in an incredibly divided country now, red versus blue.”
She continued, “This story is about choosing not to see color and choosing love above all else, and how a red heart and a blue heart could come together and choose love. It could change this world in the most beautiful way… It was just the most challenging and most rewarding role in my life, even Now, too.”
