What do you think of when you think of comic book adaptations? Crusaders with hoodies and Marvel heroes, or Batman and Wonder Woman perhaps? This is among the first associations. However, there is a lot more to comic book adaptations than the usual suspects.
Amazon Prime Video recently revealed a new American science fiction drama called Paper Girls.
Created by Stephanie Folsom, it is based on the comic book series of the same name written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Cliff Chiang.
Broadcasting began on Friday, July 29, 2022 and introduces fans to four young girls who become involved with time travelers on Halloween in 1988. In a race to save the world, they navigate past, present, and future while questions about their character. Fate presents themselves as obstacles.

Paper Girls was filmed entirely in the Midwestern state of Illinois.
Cinemaholic highlights a number of specific locations, acknowledging that filming took the crew to Will County, McHenry, and Elburn, while the majority of filming took place in Cook County.
Filming continued between May and October 2021, and Cook County locations included the facilities of Cinespace Chicago Film Studios at 2621 West 15th Place in Chicago. This helped with a bunch of internal sequences and beyond.
Speaking of Chicago – the largest city in Illinois – some sequences were captured in the Lakewood neighborhood; Music Box Theater at 3733 North Southport Avenue and its surroundings in the Southport Corridor. These surrounding areas include 3500 North Southport Avenue. Not only that, but Lou Malnati’s pizza outlets and the Bridgeport neighborhood have made it into Paper Girls.
For those curious about the Halloween sequence, Good To Know reports that this was filmed in Glenwood. Mostly in Arquilla Park, specifically.
Pulaski Woods can also be discovered if you’re familiar with the area, as well as villages like Thornton, Homewood, Wheeling, and Orlando Park. Don’t miss the chance to note Prospect Heights as an important location as well.

Moving on, the McHenry Outdoor Theater at 1510 North Chapel Hill Road has proven to be an important venue as well. It’s a drive-through and the crew also made use of the surrounding area when filming scenes there.

We were on a lot of filming locations.
Sofia Rosinski (McQuayle) recently spoke out to distract from her experience filming Paper Girls.
“A lot of it was filmed on an audio platform. However, we were shooting a lot of locations, [and] We really got to explore Illinois, and that was great. I love Chicago.”
She added, “We shot in Wheeling, in Elburn – really all over the map.”
